I knew that it was going to be just an amazing piece of theatre, to read it and then to experience the readings when it was actually cast, before it was staged. Tazewell approached the telecast just as he would a theater production. I knew about the Broadway show before that. I played The Wiz in our high school musical production of it, and I also designed the costumes for that same production.
But that was all generated on our kitchen table or in our dining room with help from my family. And yet, I think that The Wiz Live!

The mom-to-be is expecting her baby sometime this month and managed to dress her new curves gorgeously at the show. She and husband Justin Miller, who got married in November of last year, can’t wait to become parents. The singer, who posed alongside bandmate Kristian Bush at the show, wore a stunning black strapless gown that hugged her new curves perfectly.
It’s also hard—and, given the volume of choices, maybe ultimately impossible—to isolate the worst aspect of Christopher Demos-Brown’s play “American Son,” directed by Kenny Leon and.
Three years ago, when the network started what it hoped would be an annual live musical tradition with “The Sound of Music,” many of us tuned in to do a bit of ironic rubbernecking. Given such riches, it’s truly difficult to single out the best performances. More of a discovery is Sykes, a member of the “Hamilton” company who gave a breakout performance as Seaweed J. Stubbs, a dancer with supernatural grace who falls for Tracy’s nerdy best friend, Penny Pingleton Grande. But I was particularly captivated — and even moved — by the wonderfully incongruous pairing of Fierstein and Short as Tracy’s brash, loving, proudly blue-collar parents, Edna and Wilbur Turnblad.
Fierstein reprised his Broadway role as Edna, which, dating back to Divine in Waters’ original film, has always been played by a man in drag. They provided not only the best lines throughout the night Edna’s quip about being “the biggest thing in brassieres” really got me , but some of the show’s most tender moments. Despite their physical contrast, the diminutive Short and the towering Fierstein were thoroughly believable as a rumpled, aging people still very much in love with each other.
Their signature duet, “You’re Timeless to Me,” made me chuckle — and tear up just a smidge. Compared to “The Sound of Music” and “Peter Pan,” “Hairspray” also has a more modern, accessible sensibility that plays well on contemporary television. A major part of this is the humor and irony inherent in the material, which, after all, originated in the singularly transgressive mind of John Waters.
Theatergoers should also check out our lists of must-see exhibitions and must-see opera and dance performances. There is a foolproof formula for showbiz success…in Hollywood. In the theater, however, hits are much less predictable. Who would have guessed that a hip-hop biography of a founding father would be a global sensation?

The risk paid off, with the show winning two Tony Awards and earning Combs critical praise. To hear Leon talk about the comedy, set in the Martha’s Vineyard summer home of an affluent African American family, the show sounds like something of an easy yukfest, opening on a scene in which one of the sons and his girlfriend are making broadly comic love on the living room couch.
And a large part of the broader community, or the white community, they don’t know these people.

Carmel Roberts —90 Matthew Jackson, played by Steven Hartley , is the manager of the local music store. He is first seen on screen in May as a new love interest for the social worker, Carmel Roberts Judith Jacob. Matthew had had an unhappy childhood. His mother Lynna Patricia Ford had become pregnant at 16 and after bringing him up for 15 years, she had been forced to put him into custody.
Matthew was fostered by another family and he had subsequently refused all contact with his mother and rather resented her for abandoning him. Matthew is initially a kind, easy-going man. Everyone loves him, except Carmel’s brother, Darren Gary McDonald , who objects to his sister dating him because he was white. His racial hatred eventually leads to Carmel kicking him out of her flat and Matthew later moves in instead.
Carmel is really besotted with Matthew, so when he proposes marriage in November that year, she gleefully accepts. Carmel wants to invite Lynna to the wedding, but Matthew is totally opposed to the idea. His ire rises at her mere mention, but Carmel pursues it, which causes Matthew to blow his top and viciously scream at her. Carmel is left dumbstruck at the sudden outburst, but this is only a small taster of what is to come in the following months.

More and more, productions arrive in New York relatively untested, determined to fix as many bugs as they can in front of some of the most discerning audiences anywhere. But opening cold on Broadway is a dicey prospect. And in the case of Holler If Ya Hear Me , a new musical that utilizes the songs of legendary rap artist Tupac Shakur to explore gun and gang violence in , a cold opening wasn’t to its benefit. It is extremely well-performed, with a cast led by the dynamic poet-performer Saul Williams in a roof-raising Broadway debut.
It features an ensemble of energetic dancers and singers who bring Shakur’s profound, scarily prescient lyrics to thrilling life. The show’s problems lie in the book — penned by musical-theater newbie Todd Kreidler — which almost singlehandedly brings the experience down. They also discuss some example of what self-love is and what it is not. While we talk about changing thoughts and habits, we understand it is often easier said than done. This book will show you concepts like creating a conducive environment and habit stacking to help affect change. Generated from external sources. Self-love is generated from within and projected outwards on to the world. Just as the way people treat you is usually a reflection of how they feel about themselves, the way you treat others can be a reflection of your internal self-worth.
You also tend to see the world in a way that reflects the way you feel about yourself and will miss the cues that contradict that view while focusing on those that confirm it. It is more than just what feels good. Many people will turn to unhealthy habits or behaviors to feel good, but feeling good is not necessarily self-love.
Some extremes of this may be things like drugs or alcohol but can also be more subtle like unhealthy food choices on a frequent basis for the immediate satisfaction it brings. It is not conditional.
